Our desire is to create experiences for our children--with intention--to learn and grow into more Christlike, interdependent, creative problem solvers who have a passion for life, learning, nature, people and cultures, and all things good and praiseworthy* (1 corinthians 13). We want our children to be--like honey bees--active, involved community members working together for a common goal with humility and purpose. As well as to be resourceful, to value what they have, and to work hard, with faith, so they may see and feel the satisfaction and growth (in themselves and others) that comes as a result. These can be summed up under three main areas: God, self, and others.
We don't want a formal classroom with limitations, but rather an atmosphere (whose structure is based on true and good virtues) which helps each child feel a part of a whole and be empowered to be his or her best self.
Here are our Be's we will practice in our Adventures: (from Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley + 1 of mine)
Be Kind.
Live the golden rule and treat all things and people with respect and gentleness. View all things as God's creations and all people as created in His image. Desire to serve and give freely by going the second mile.
Be Grateful.
Live the golden rule and treat all things and people with respect and gentleness. View all things as God's creations and all people as created in His image. Desire to serve and give freely by going the second mile.
Be Grateful.
See God's hand in all things. Acknowledge the good you find in all places and people. Show love and respect for all God's creations.
Be Wise.
Be a life-long learner and seeker of truth in all things good. Knowledge is power, but wisdom comes from its correct application. Things take work; and you reap what you sow.
Be Clean.
Value your body and respect others. Keep yourself clean in body & mind, word and deed. Use clean, wholesome language that edifies and uplifts.
Be True.
Be open and honest in all your dealings with others. A pure heart knows Joy. Never make a promise you don't intend to keep. Know what you stand for and decide now to not settle for less, regardless of external pressures.
Be Humble.
Be teachable and desire to improve and repent/forgive.
Be Prayerful.
Seek God's help and sustaining hope. Start and end each day with prayer; and keep communication with Him at all times throughout the day. Be open and honest with Him. No vain repetitions.
Be Involved.
Willingly contribute to the whole and find you have much to give for the benefit of others.
Be Positive.
See true potential in self and others and focus on that. Have a "Can-do" attitude. Smile. Choose to be happy and to help others--find joy in going the second mile.
Be Still.
Take time to reflect (word, art, movement, etc.) and to listen and be aware of yourself, others and the environment around you.
