Here is a handy chart to help assign sounds to certain notes. With sounds that are predictable it is easier for children to recognize patterns they hear.

Try singing a favorite song replacing the words with these sounds, according to associated notes/rhythm. You can also try marching to the beat and saying the accompanying rhythm sounds.
